Industry: Aerospace

The mission: Far outside our solar system and beyond the distant reaches of our galaxy—in the vast vacuum of space—the distance between gas and dust particles limits heat transfer. Temperatures in these regions can drop to approximately -455°F (2.7 kelvin).

The challenge: Develop a material capable of withstanding the cryogenic-like conditions of outer space while maintaining performance under normal conditions on Earth. The solution must provide exceptional barrier resistance along with high clarity. CFB’s advanced cleanroom manufacturing capabilities support aerospace packaging solutions that exceed these demanding requirements.

The solution: CFB7000 Series: HydroBlock® PCTFE

HydroBlock® is a high-performance aerospace packaging material that excels in moisture barrier protection, clarity, chemical resistance, durability, and extreme low-temperature performance. It is also one of the clearest industrial-grade polymeric moisture barrier films available.

Engineered for harsh environments, this material is ideal for applications requiring superior clarity, moisture protection, and durability. As a homopolymer, HydroBlock® uniquely combines clarity with resistance to moisture, chemicals, and weather. It also withstands UV exposure without degradation, making it ideal for space applications.

These clean plastic films and UV-resistant bags are manufactured in our cleanroom facility and have been used in various shuttle applications, including storage of food, liquids, samples, and waste.
